groupthink and gardens
we've grown so used to
stepping on flower buds before they can bloom because
they're a different color than everyone else's and
different doesn't fall into the category of "good" or "acceptable."
different doesn't fit here,
so we try and try again to soak stems in food colored water and
thick-coat paint on petals hoping that maybe our defects
will sprout some sense and learn to conform
and match the rest.
we took seeds from other gardens
and planted them in our own until our yards
looked the exact same as theirs and then
our flowers weren't a different color than everyone else's anymore and
that scared me.
i wanted deviation;
i had no desire

The 30 Day Character Development Challenge~!
[Stole off someone's facebook]
1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don't have any, is there a reason?
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?
5.) What's your character's ranking on the KINSEY SCALE?
6.) Describe your character's happiest memory.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their pas
your face had many names,
each one a ring in the tree of your life;
a paragon in the arts, a kind voice in the wind
you were the lighthouse in the fog,
the booming presence from above,
the firework display in Germany,
and the wizard who struck Muggle gold
in the hearts of millions;
the laughter in your halls will cease
to be moved to a higher place,
the kindness you gave to all
will be expedited to the world
Depression is a choice, my dear,
And happiness the same
You choose this illness, don’t you?
What a tragic little game.
Depression is an option, love
Just get up out of bed
Take your tears and worries
And just smile now instead.
Depression is a choice, you see,
And so is suicide.
Just sit back, kick your feet up, dear
Enjoy this perfect ride.
Get over your own standards
Of what everyone should be.
Just smile for once, and maybe
You’ll be living perfectly.
...
But...
Depression is an illness
That we feel so deep within.
Why would anybody choose
To write poetry on their skin?
Unless there lies a reason, dear,
I would not choo

1) No matter how many times it's necessary, argue. Every time they vent about how hideous, worthless, or moronic they think they are, fight it. Day in and day out, no matter how much they don't believe you, they still want to hear it. They need it, but they won't ask for it.
Maybe once and a while you don't want to start a full on debate. Simply tell them, if they don't tell you, that you don't want to fight again. Just tell them they already know you think they are amazing and move on to talk about more pleasant things.
2) Try not to leave

:star: History
The fact every Trella has one star somewhere on their ears and the fact Trellas can be found in every possible world and dimension made people believe a Trella is born whenever a star dies. Whether this is true or not, noone actually knows.
:star: Appearance
All Trellas have checkered rounded ears with one star attached (not removable).

five things they don't teach you in highschool
1.
it's okay to fall in love.
i mean, they tell you you're never going
to marry your high school sweetheart and i'm not going
to tell you it's a lie
because it's not. you guys will probably
break up and it's gonna hurt like hell
but you'll be okay. remember, you are not the only one
who has felt loneliness like a knife,
the only one to know the pain of lungs collapsing
because they were your air,
and you will never be the only one who whispered
"i love you" two lives too soon.
you will not be the last one to have tucked
hair behind their ear and leaned in for a kiss
or the last one to wake up reaching for a hand that's no longer there.

So you wanna make an adoptable species
Disclaimer: Everything written here is opinion. I get a lot of people asking for advice, for critique, and I just want a post I can easily link to.
There is no "right way" to make a species. There are TONS of variables that might affect your success (in sales). Nothing here should be taken literally. It's only my opinion & personal methods!

Not in it for Money

I DO NOT recommend people make an OS for the specific reason that they want to make money.
It's fine to want a little bit of spending money or something in the mindset of a little side-project. But

Closed Species are not Closed Features
This journal is simply my opinion, meant to encourage and hopefully help others.
Comments will be hidden that are abusive, contain mature language, or incite drama.
I won't respond to any debate or long-winded comments. It's not that I don't care, but I need to use my time working on art instead.
I've only been on dA for a little over a year now, but I've seen so much drama and hurtful comments on closed species. Here are a few topics that effect me the most.
Closed Species are not Closed Features
This seems to be one of the biggest issues non-closed species owners have. Let's say you came up with a new species called Muffin Cats. Th
